Home Ground

Home Ground is a volunteer organization in Allegany County whose mission is to increase knowledge of Allegany County’s natural assets, inspiring citizens to support sustainable use and conservation of our land and water resources. This scholarship will be awarded for the Fall semester to a deserving student who has met the following minimum qualifications: Full-time student, resident of Tri-State area, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and be enrolled in the Biology, Forest Technology, or Tree Care Technician curriculum. Applicant must submit a brief essay (no more than one page) explaining his/her plan of study, how he/she would use the money, and how it coincides with the goals of Home Ground. The awardee will be expected to meet with the Home Ground organization after the semester to present a talk about his/her work and study, which may lead to a letter of recommendation if needed by the student. The award may be used towards tuition, cost of a field studies trip in biology or geology, independent study, or study abroad. The applicant’s work could be tied to a service learning project. A one-time continuation of scholarship into second year is possible upon reapplication and proof of having met criteria.
